Stakeholder Consultative Meeting With Key Actors To Assess Youth Participation In Leadership And Peacebuilding In Kenya

A delegation from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), led by Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane, conducted a 5-day visit to Nairobi, Kenya, from March 4th – 8th, 2024. This visit was part of the project titled, “Deepening the Role of Women and Youth in the Implementation of Women and Youth Peace and Security in Africa” project, sponsored by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). 

 

During the visit, the delegation conducted stakeholder consultations to assess the participation of African youth in leadership and peacebuilding efforts.  The team met with a range of organizations and individuals, including the Student Union President of the University of Nairobi; the Secretariat of the National Youth Council of Kenya; INTERPEACE Nairobi; SAVE THE CHILDREN; Professor Peter Kagwanja; and the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC).  

 

Discussions focused on youth involvement in peace and security initiatives, with a commitment to strengthen collaborations and explore new avenues for engagement.  The visit concluded with meetings with political party youth wings, followed by a courtesy call on Ghana’s High Commissioner to Kenya.  These meetings underscore the importance of including young people in decision-making processes.
