With funding support from the Norwegian Government, the Director of the Policy, Plans, Monitoring and Evaluation Department (PPMED) at the Centre led a team to participate in the 73rd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) in The Gambia in October 2022. It was a great opportunity for the Centre to showcase its products and services to increase its visibility, and to deepen its relations with the African Commission, and network with a number of stakeholders and organizations from all over Africa on issues of human rights, peace and security in Africa.
Prior to the sessions of the Commission, the Centre participated in a two-day training workshop organized for selected participants on how to engage the Commission and other international human rights mechanisms. It also participated in the NGO Forum preceding the 73rd Ordinary session of the ACHPR. Both events provided an opportunity for the Centre to network with NGO’s, CSO’s, Journalists and other Human Rights Defenders.
As part of the networking activities, the Centre took part in multiple side events. It had the headline opportunity to speak about its mandate, products and services at the African Women’s Conference, a platform for African women to deliberate and adopt action plans that will deliver rapid growth and development in Africa. Speaking at the event, the Director of PPMED affirmed the Centre’s commitment to gender equality and women empowerment to promote peace and stability on the continent.
