The British Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict and Minister of State for the Commonwealth and United Nations, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, has lauded KAIPTC’s contribution to global peacekeeping, citing its hallmark of training over fifteen thousand participants for peace support operations around the world. He further noted that the Centre is the only training institution on the continent to have a Women, Peace and Security Institute.
He made these remarks during a round table meeting held at KAIPTC to discuss ‘UN Peacekeeping Reform: the UN and Africa’. He stressed the UK government’s support for reform in peacekeeping through improvement in three areas – Planning, Pledges, and performance. These 3P’s, contained in the joint ‘Communiqué signed at the London Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial last September, is considered a blueprint for peacekeeping reform.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Ghana, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, has highlighted the need to strengthen the rapport between the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), and the Ghana Police Service, to achieve shared goals on peace and security in the nation and beyond.
“We can further collaborate to explore other critical areas of policing, including counter terrorism, transnational organized crime, human trafficking and proliferation of small arms”. This move, he believes, will not only be beneficial to the Ghana Police Service, but also other Police Services within the ECOWAS sub-region.

A team of technical experts from the Peace and Security Department of the African Union have visited KAIPTC on a two-fold mission: to hold preliminary discussions on methodology for research on Ghana’s structural vulnerability assessment, and a planned establishment of a National Early Warning Centre at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana.

The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has partnered the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defense and Sports to develop the first-ever Political Advisor Course for Peace Support Operations in Africa. This course comes to critically fill a need and void in grooming Political Advisors who play a very critical role in providing leadership support for Commanders of Military Operations and Heads of Missions in Africa.

KAIPTC, at the request of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, has conducted a capacity building workshop in Policy Analysis and Design for selected staff of the Department of Research of the legislative body.
The five-day workshop, aimed at equipping the participants with the requisite knowledge and skills in public analysis and design, in order to deliver effective technical and research assistance to committees and members of Parliament. Participants comprised research officers who all hold various academic qualifications from different disciplines such as Law, Economics, Political Science, Public Health, Gender studies, Humanities and Development Studies.

Renowned Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Professor Isaac Olawale Albert, has charged regional bodies to deepen efforts geared towards the implementation of peacebuilding agenda globally. He noted that peacebuilding is a multiplicity of activities that demands partnership at the governmental, inter-governmental, non-governmental levels.

The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has emerged the first institution in sub-Saharan Africa on the Global Go-To Think Tank Ranking. The KAIPTC also ranked second out of five institutions on the entire continent, who appeared on the global list of leading think tanks in foreign policy and international affairs. KAIPTC outranked the Institute for Security Studies and the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), both in South Africa, and the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), Ghana.
