The Women, Peace and Security Institute of the KAIPTC has participated in the Second African Women Leaders Network Forum held at the African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, and organized by The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN). The theme of the Second Forum of the Network was “Women Working Together for the Africa We Want: From Commitment to Action”

Over 100 participants complete Peace Operations Course

The German government and the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) jointly organized a Peace Operations course for over 100 participants from 13 countries. The course, among others, enhanced the understanding of challenges of peace operations, strengthened the leadership qualities of participants, and provided a greater understanding in working relations among stakeholders.

WPSI participates in Validation Workshop on Women, Peace and Security agenda in Africa

The African Union Commission (AUC), through the Office of the Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security organized a two-day validation workshop on a draft Continental Results Framework (CRF) which was developed and reviewed during the November 2017 AU-ECOWAS consultative meeting held in Abuja.

Comprehensive Protection of Civilians Course

KAIPTC in collaboration with The United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) and the Netherland Embassy, Ghana, initiated the second Comprehensive Protection of Civilians Course for 30 participants from Ghana, Niger, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Rwanda, and the Netherlands.

Sudan initiates collaboration with KAIPTC

Accra 23rd April 2018: His Excellency Babikir Elsiddig Mohamed, Ambassador of Sudan to Ghana accompanied by his counsellor Mr. Ahmed Mustafa Abass paid a courtesy call on the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) to discuss key issues on peace and security.

Promoting prosperity and security in Africa is in our national interest

Accra, 23rd April, 2018:  Defence management and how nations design their strategies and policies is key to setting the appropriate framework for the successful delivery of defence and security. The world’s security environment has been recently exposed to a range of threats. Boko Haram in Nigeria, Al Shabaab in Somalia and other extremist groups in the Sahel with an expansion of their deadly activities, as seen in Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Niger and very recently again in Burkina Faso all threaten security and challenge the rules-based international system. In Europe, tension over the situation in Ukraine, the management of the migrant crisis and an extant terrorist threat, which has struck in Paris, Brussels and London, still remain serious concerns.

His Excellency Kofi Annan is 80!

Named after an anchor of peace, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), celebrates His Excellency Dr. Kofi Annan on his 80th birthday! Describing himself as being atribal in a tribal world, Dr Kofi Annan was born on 8th April, 1938 in Kumasi in the Ashanti region of Ghana. He attended the Mfantsipim School, in Cape Coast from 1954 to 1957. Whiles at Mfantsipim, he learned that “suffering anywhere concerns people everywhere.” This lesson followed him throughout his life.

31 participants gear up for 2018 SSR Course

Accra, 12th March 2018: The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has welcomed 31 Police Officers to the opening ceremony of the 2018 Security Sector Reform Course (SSR). The course targets middle level Police Officers and practitioners who out the reform duties in post-conflict reconstruction phase of peacebuilding. The objective of the course is to equip participants with introductory knowledge on the concepts of peace and security in the African context; equip them to demonstrate competence in developing their role in peace building in post conflict environment, among others.

Selected Ghanaian and Nigerian Lawmakers meet to dialogue on Security Sector

Accra, 13th March 2018: The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has hosted a three-day dialogue and experience sharing workshop for selected elected representatives of the Ghanaian and Nigerian Parliaments. The workshop was to enable the Honourable Members of the National Assembly of Nigeria and the Parliament of Ghana to exchange best practices on parliamentary oversight of the security sector. Dubbed, “Exchange of Good Practices on Legislative Oversight”, the workshop was jointly organised by the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of the Armed Forces (DCAF), and the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC).

AVM Evans opens 2018 Joint Campaign Planning Course

Accra, March 12th 2018: With a fundamental obligation of generating effective and sustainable capacities within the African and ECOWAS Peace and Security architecture as well as building capacities to implement AU and UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding mandates, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has welcomed a new batch of participants for the Joint Campaign Planning Course.
