KAIPTC trains Research Staff of the Parliament of Zimbabwe
KAIPTC, at the request of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, has conducted a capacity building workshop in Policy Analysis and Design for selected staff of the Department of Research of the legislative body.
The five-day workshop, aimed at equipping the participants with the requisite knowledge and skills in public analysis and design, in order to deliver effective technical and research assistance to committees and members of Parliament. Participants comprised research officers who all hold various academic qualifications from different disciplines such as Law, Economics, Political Science, Public Health, Gender studies, Humanities and Development Studies.
Brig Gen. Dr Emmanuel Kotia, Deputy Commandant of the KAIPTC, in his remarks during the closing ceremony of the training workshop, noted that Parliaments are the second most important arm of government as they play a critical role of making laws, scrutinizing government actions and representing the voters and citizens. He added that their role as research staff is a privileged one due to the opportunity they have to contribute to law-making and policy formulation.
“There is no doubt that your work as research staff plays a critical role in contributing to knowledge and generating diverse ideas towards the socio-economic transformation of your country”, he said.
The Deputy Commandant further indicated that the workshop is an exposure to best practices in policy briefs, research methods and other very critical tools that are necessary for their work.
He commended the Parliament of Zimbabwe for the initiative to enhance the capacity of its research staff to contribute to effective policy making. He also congratulated the participants and urged them to be relentless in their efforts at being effective researchers in enhancing law making and policy formulation in Zimbabwe.
The workshop was facilitated by Mohammed Hardi and Dr. Zakaria from the Parliament of Ghana, as well as Dr. Thomas Jaye, Professor Kwaku Osei-Hwedie, Emma Birikorang Mustapha Abdallah and Frank Okyere from the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research (FAAR) Department of the KAIPTC.
The successful completion of the training has furthered the efforts of the department in fulfilling its institutional Strategic Plan; the plan, among others, aims to engender policy consciousness in its staff through designing and effectively communicating through policy briefs and deepening the quality of contributions of the legislative body in the national development agenda.
