As part of efforts to strengthen the capacities of RECs and their relevant structures to perform their mandates, the KAIPTC with funding support from the German and Norwegian Governments, paid a working visit to the ECOWAS Commission Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria to hold follow-up discussions on the Capacity Needs Assessment (CNA) exercise carried out in 2019. Working sessions were held with different offices of the Commission to ascertain challenges and the areas of support required.
Key issues discussed with the Director, Peacekeeping & Regional Security (DPKRS) & Director Political Affairs Dr. Cyriaque Agnekethom centered on the quadripartite agreement between the TCE’s and ECOWAS Commission, partnership and attendance to Governing Board Meetings, the next Commandants TCE meeting and focal points for engagement especially on Women, Peace and Security.
Beyond the stakeholder engagements, the team discussed and reviewed the Capacity Needs Assessment undertaken with ECOWAS Commission in 2019 as well as technological support to the TCE’s. Key issues discussed include WPS, Research, the continuation of training courses under the EPSAO project, in country trainings and the standardization of the curricula for the Gender in PSO course.
The working visit was a great opportunity to openly discuss key issues and interact with the divisions, and also renew the cooperation and collaboration between both institutions in furtherance of the peace and security Agenda in the sub-region.
