  • Representatives from client organizations such as DPO, UNDP, other UN agencies, National DDR Commissions, MDA’s, ECOWAS/AU, Multilateral agencies, World Bank, INGO’s, NGO’s, CBO’s, and Academic Institutions.

Course Aim

The course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive, conceptual, and operational understanding of the principles, procedures, and contemporary practices in S& R programs and DDR related tools.

 

Target Group

The course is tailored for professionals involved in peace-building activities, including but not limited to:

  • Military, Police, and Civilian mission staff involved or seeking deployment in DDR programs.
  • Researchers in DDR and broader peace building.
  • Representatives from client organizations such as DPO, UNDP, other UN agencies, National DDR Commissions, MDA’s, ECOWAS/AU, Multilateral agencies, World Bank, INGO’s, NGO’s, CBO’s, and Academic Institutions.

 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the concepts, policies and strategies of S&R;
  • Identify and suggest solutions to the problematic components, activities and other issues related to S&R;
  • Develop options to engage the different actors and institutions involved in S&R;
  • Understand the new trends in peace operations affecting Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) approaches and policies.
  • Develop practical skills needed to plan and implement S&R programmes

 

Eligibility Criteria

In addition to the KAIPTC corporate eligibility criteria, priority would be given to operational/mid-level personnel with at least 6 months’ experience working on DDR programs, and participants from countries about to embark on DDR.

 

Pedagogical Approach

This training will adopt a Collaborative Problem-Based Learning (CPBL) approach which comprises presentations, group discussions, group work, Q&A sessions, case studies, practical & field exercises among others. Selected Facilitators will be adept and raise pertinent issues on the selected topics to provoke discussions and participation. The various tools employed will help participants better familiarize with various concepts related to Stabilisation and Reintegration

 

Course Content

The course will be structured around three comprehensive modules:

  1. Assessment and Analysis of Stabilization and Reintegration Programmes
  2. Stabilisation of the Post Conflict Environment
  3. Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism and managing Radicalisation in Reintegration
  4. Design and Operationalisation of Reintegration
  5. Economic Reintegration
  6. Social and Psycho-social Reintegration
  7. Reintegration of Specific Need Groups

 

Selection Process

After the deadline, the selection board will meet and decide selection based on merit and a balanced class composition. The process will be as following:

  • Selection Board will decide on shortlisted and waitlisted applications
  • Shortlisted candidates will be asked to confirm their seats bindingly
  • Should not all shortlisted candidates confirm their seats, these will be offered to candidates on the waitlist on “first come first served” basis
