JOB PURPOSE:

Coordination and administration of the activity plan of the Research Department.

MAIN DUTIES:

  1. Coordinate the administrative, research and teaching activities of the Research Department.
  2. Maintain a database of Departmental contacts.
  3. Assist the Director with conceptualising and implementing the Research Department activity plan, including the development of an integrated programme management matrix.
  4. Develop departmental budget and liaise with Finance department accordingly.
  5. Assist the Director in drafting Terms of Reference (ToR) for contracted research assignments.
  6. Convene departmental coordination meetings.
  7. Support seminar and workshop planning and administration. 
  8. Monitor implementation timeframes and output delivery.
  9. Conduct research projects in consultation with the Director within field of own academic expertise.
  10. Reporting and writing for Research, including rapporteuring for workshops and seminars.
  11. Disseminate information from Research Department to other departments and facilitate communication between Research Department and other Departments at KAIPTC.
  12. Any other duties within the scope and content of the job that may be assigned by the Director within the

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Educational Qualification

A master’s degree in the Social Sciences, Business Administration or a related field.

At least 5 years administrative working experience in an academic/research institution or related area with 5 years of relevant experience in the management/coordination of research projects, including production of reports. Demonstrable writing and budgeting ability. French language would be an advantage.

  • Capacity to adapt, to act quickly to take initiatives, to learn new disciplines and skills relevant to the responsibilities at the Centre.

Technical Competency

  • Very good analytical and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of budgeting processes including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge in project management.
  • Knowledge of peace, security and conflict issues in Africa and West Africa in particular would be an advantage.

Personal Attributes.

  • Initiative.    Self-starter with sound managerial, analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Communication. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain partnerships with key interlocutors. Ability to successfully collaborate with people of different cultural backgrounds
  • Motivation. High degree of self-motivation and the ability to motive and work with members of the team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability. Able to respond quickly and effectively to changing situations and new work priorities. Ability to multi-task.
  • Diligence.         Able to complete assigned tasks accurately and punctually. A strong desire to learn.
  • Affinity for the use of technology to simplify tasks.

This position requires a very capable organizer, who is also proficient in applied policy research.
