GPS Course: Enhancing the Capacities of Grassroots Women in Gender, Peace, and Security

A total of 38 grassroots participants—primarily women—benefited from the Gender, Peace, and Security (GPS) Course held from 23–27 September 2024. The workshop targeted grassroots women and brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Traditional Leaders, Youth Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Security Forces, Local Government Agencies, and research institutions. Notably, the course prioritized inclusivity by accommodating a physically challenged female participant.

The workshop was designed to foster dialogue and enhance participants’ understanding of Gender, Peace, and Security issues at the grassroots level. Discussions were enriched by participants’ broad experiences, as they shared both successes and challenges faced in advancing gender equality and peace-building efforts in their communities.

Sessions were highly interactive and informative, catering to participants with varying levels of knowledge on integrating gender-based issues into their work. The workshop also provided a safe space and valuable platform for grassroots women and men to exchange ideas, build networks, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Recognizing the crucial role of grassroots women in promoting peace and security, the workshop emphasized the importance of actively supporting their individual and collective efforts. It is anticipated that participants will leverage their new knowledge and networks to drive meaningful change within their communities, fostering gender inclusivity and sustainable peace.
