Germany Strengthens Partnership with Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre

A German defence delegation, led by General Mathias J. Schallnus on his first visit to Africa, met with the management of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) to learn more about the Centre’s work in peacekeeping training and capacity building.

The visit highlighted Germany’s growing interest in strengthening its partnership with Ghana in peace and security. Discussions focused on enhancing training and trade cooperation, including increasing training opportunities for Ghanaian officers.

General Schallnus commended Ghana for its extensive deployments in peace support missions, creating a strong foundation for collaborative efforts to elevate peacekeeping initiatives.

The Commandant of the KAIPTC, Major General Richard Addo Gyane, who welcomed the delegation and acknowledged Germany’s significant contributions.

He emphasized Germany’s consistent support, which includes vital resources such as logistical assistance, staff capacity building, and funding for major infrastructure developments, an essential contribution to the Centre’s effective operation.

He also pointed out that KAIPTC is a critical voice on research in peace and security, enhancing the capacity of actors within the peace and security agenda.

He also highlighted the crucial collaboration between Germany and the KAIPTC on gender equality and youth engagement, which has benefited numerous individuals from across Africa.

General Gyane expressed sincere gratitude for Germany’s long-standing support, emphasizing its visible impact on the Centre’s activities.
