Engagement with Japanese Officials in Japan

A delegation from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) led by the Commandant, Major-General Richard Addo Gyane, visited Japan from October 20-26, 2024 to deepen its partnership with Japan and the UNDP on peace and security initiatives in West Africa.

The delegation which included the Programme Head Conflict Management, Dr John Pokoo and the Director Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Ms Horname Noagbesenu, engaged with Japanese officials and peace-focused institutions to strengthen collaborative efforts, particularly in the areas of Women, Youth, Peace, and Security (WYPS).

Since 2008, this partnership has supported numerous KAIPTC projects, benefitting over 3,000 personnel across ECOWAS member states. The visit also aimed to explore new areas for collaboration, reflecting the evolving security priorities in West Africa and Japan’s commitment to peacebuilding efforts in the region.
