Belgium’s Special Envoy to the Sahel and Czech Governmental Envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine visit the KAIPTC

The KAIPTC played host to H.E Dr. De Groof Bart, Belgium’s Special Envoy to the Sahel and H.E Mr.  Tomáš Kopečný, the Czech Governmental Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine on the 5th and 9th of June respectively.

Discussions with Dr De Groof Bart who was accompanied by the Belgium Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire H.E Ambassador Michael Wimmer, focused on security issues in the Sahel and the spillovers in neighboring countries. The discussions also highlighted the competing roles of non-state actors in the Sahel Region, the limitations of MINUSMA, the Accra Initiative and entry points for collaboration.

Applauding the KAIPTC for its work in the region, Mr.  Tomáš Kopečný,  who was also accompanied by Mr Matěj Denk, the Deputy Head of Mission, Czech Embassy, Ghana, expressed his country’s interest in working closely with the KAIPTC to implement critical initiatives jointly with regional stakeholders within the peace and security sector.

In terms of collaboration, he indicated that his government was seeking to launch a Think tank which could be an entry point for collaboration in the area of research, education, policy advising and joint programming for peace and security actors.
