The African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA) successfully held its Board of Directors and Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 30th January 2025, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The meeting was formally opened by His Excellency ETOGA GALAX YVES LANDRY, Representative of the Minister for Defence, Cameroon.
The gathering brought together 26 participants from ten (10) African countries—Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda—with a gender ratio of 4 females to 22 males. Among the distinguished attendees was Major General Richard Addo Gyane, Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).
The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration among APSTA member institutions, strengthening peacekeeping training across Africa, and reviewing the association’s progress and future strategic direction.
Following the opening ceremony, Major General Richard Addo Gyane paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Honorary Consul to the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Consular Donald Muffih. This visit provided an opportunity to discuss regional security cooperation and KAIPTC’s role in peace support training across the continent.
The event was fully funded by the Cameroonian Government, highlighting its strong commitment to regional peace and security. APSTA covered the airfare, accommodation, and meals for two delegates per member institution, ensuring broad participation.
At the end of the meeting, the following key updates were shared:
Rwanda became the new Board of Directors Chair, representing the East African Region.
Five new members were also adopted into the association: Three new members from Cameroon and one each from Kenya and Tanzania.
With the successful conclusion of the 2025 APSTA Board of Directors and Annual General Meeting, member institutions reaffirmed their dedication to advancing peace support operations and fostering stronger partnerships for a safer and more stable Africa.
