Accra, 22nd January, 2018: As per the mandate of the Academic Affairs Unit of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) to deliver world class postgraduate programmes in Peace and Security, the Unit has successfully matriculated the eighth cohort of students for the Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security (MCPS 8).
In attendance at the ceremony were the Commandant of KAIPTC, Air Vice Marshal Griffiths Evans, the Deputy Commandant of KAIPTC, Brigadier General Dr. Emmanuel Kotia, the Deputy Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research, Dr. Emma Birikorang, the Dean of Academic Affairs, Professor Kwaku Osei-Hwedie and other teaching and non-teaching staff of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research.
Professor Osei-Hwedie, Dean of Academic Affairs, in his opening remarks urged students to study diligently and make use of the wide range of facilities at their disposal and participate in all of the Centre’s activities.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Franklin Gawornu, speaking on behalf of his mates, expressed their appreciation to KAIPTC for selecting them as privileged students for the programme. He encouraged the class to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge available to them through the Faculty, in order to leave an indelible mark wherever they find themselves.
In his matriculation address, AVM Griffiths Evans, Commandant of KAIPTC, indicated that the students will have the utmost privilege of combining theory and practice and contributing their informed opinions to national and international discussions and discourses. He entreated them to broaden their horizon and avail themselves to discovering new ways of making peace and security a reality rather than a mirage.
“As an ECOWAS designated Training Centre of Excellence, we at KAIPTC with your reciprocal support, pledge to tutor you, through the delivery of relevant courses and modules, to fully equip you to respond and effectively manage the intricacies and complexities that today’s security challenges present”, he added.
In his concluding remarks, he reminded the students to assimilate and exemplify the ideals of academic excellence that the Centre is reputed for everywhere they find themselves, as they had become automatic brand ambassadors of KAIPTC.
The eighth batch number 44 in all, comprising 40 Ghanaians and four (4) nationalities from other West African countries. The one-year programme will equip the students with specialized knowledge and skills to provide the required leadership in their respective organisations.
