Small Arms and Light Weapons Programme

The Small Arms and Light Weapons Programme at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has been designed to complement the capacity building effort of the ECOWAS Small Arms Control Programme (ECOSAP) through research and training on specific small arms courses relevant to the needs and context of West Africa. It is supported by the Government of Japan on behalf of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The project seeks to train personnel of the National Commissions on Small Arms and their partners in member states of ECOWAS in a broad spectrum of issues relating to small arms to enhance their capacities to manage and control the proliferation of small arms as well as consolidate peace in the sub-region.
